Iris Fernelle Harris 2017

Iris Fernelle Harris, 78, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at the St. Luke's Hospice House.

Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th Street, Independence, Missouri 64055; with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM tonight, May 3, 2017 at the chapel.

Donations may be made to Cancer Action.

Iris was born August 31, 1938, in Tonganoxie, Kansas, to Carl Arthur and Naomi Leona (Filson) Masten. She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1956. She and her husband owned and operated Gaslight Travel until 2002. In addition to that, she had worked at the Blue Springs Walmart for 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and genealogy. She was a member of the East 39th Street Community of Christ. She was married to David S. Harris who preceded her in death in 2013.

Survivors include 3 children, Keith Harris and wife, Liz, of Independence, Missouri, Janet Heese and husband, Ron, of Dow City, Iowa, and Scott Harris and wife, Angie, of Blue Springs, Missouri; a sister, Phyllis Ruehter and husband, Edward, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clifford R. Masten.
