2008 Class Updates 11/26/08 I have been living in Shanghai for about a year and a half now, with my wife and twin daughter (2 year olds). At the risk of sounding like a Dad, our girls are beautiful and smart, they get that from their executive Mom. A few years ago, I sent a picture of my wife and I when we got married in Hawaii. Cliff had it on his WCHS website, don't know if it's still there. By the way, my girls are my first, never "had time" for kids before. I'll attach a picture or two. Shanghai seems to be one of "the places to be" in the world today. There are many foreigners living here from all over the world. They come here because it's an exiting place in exciting times and/or for business or work opportunity. Of course, Shanghai was called the Paris of Asia back before WWII and these times are reminiscent of those times. We have been wanting try living here for some time. We now have been able to do so because the company my wife works for wanted her to look after some business start ups. We live near the city center where there is a lot of action, business and otherwise Our home is in a luxury high-rise. Our extended family include 3 nannies - 2 Chinese and one Filipino. You would not believe how expensive it is here, rivaling NYC, high rises everywhere but still many old style homes. So much contrast, financial, political, cultural. There's lots I could go on about but that's probably more information than you wanted to know. If anyone is interested, I've added a list of life events below. Best regards to all, Larry W. Carlile
Brief Outline of Life Events 11/11/08 We will have a special guest at our breakfast Wednesday morning, all the way from California. So please do make it to the breakfast, 10 a.m. at The Big Biscuit. He is really excited about joining us, and we haven’t seen him for awhile, so I’m sure we will all be glad to see him, as well as seeing each other! By the way, just in case you won’t recognize him when he walks in, his name is Norman Walker. Norman is in town visiting and taking care of his cousin, Linda Faulkner (another classmate), who just had surgery. Will be looking for you Wednesday. Jan Houston 10/14/08 Just wanted to share with you that Russell Bentch's wife called me last night to tell me that Russell's hip surgery went well, and he pulled through okay! Jan Houston 9/2/08 This is a report of Judy Durbin's trip to China -- Judy is our classmate Charles Durbin's wife. I think it's so neat that she shared her story with me. If any of you ever have a "story" to tell us, please let me know, so I can share it with others. We all do want to know how and what you are doing. Jan Houston 5/10/08 Well, we've lost another classmate. John Boldizs passed away. John didn't receive his diploma with the rest of us, as he lacked a few credits, but he was a classmate all during my school years. His funeral is tomorrow (Sunday). Jan Houston 4/23/08 Hello. I just thought perhaps you might like to know this information regarding our classmate, Bob Kralicek. I'm sorry to inform you of this.... Bob Kralicek's wife, Jill, passed away. Memorial services will be this Friday at 11 a.m. at the Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City. I know that Jill did not graduate with us, but Bob was a dear classmate of ours. Bob has spent many years in caring for his wife; and even though he is now released from that burden, still he grieves deeply, as he loved her dearly. She was so sweet! My heart, prayers, and sympathy go out to Bob. Jan Houston 1/14/08 Here's a reply to an e-mail I sent Eugene Pease. Thought you might be interested in it. I'm sure he'd love to receive a card from you, if you care to. Have a good day. Keep warm and safe. Jan |
