Chrisman Court Warming is Friday, January 13 vs Raytown. Game starts
at
7:00 pm. If you can only make one Chrisman basketball game this
year, please
make it this one. Alumni standing at half-time is a great way to
show the
current students our Chrisman pride!!!
The Class of 65 gathering place for dinner this year is the Eagles
Club on 24
Highway. It is about a 1/2 mile east of Chrisman on US 24 Hwy, just
past the VFW on
the north side of the road. We can link up there around 5:15 ish and
have plenty of time to eat and then go on over to Courtwarming. Yes,
I
asked and it is Okay for us to eat there. This is Class of 65 Lynn
Toms' karaoke
singing location.
If your class wants to join us, please call (816) 461-4662 and let
them know how many are coming.
Another way the Eagles raise money is their Sunday biscuits and
gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon,
coffee, etc., breakfast buffet. Normally around $6 and tips are

giving us a place to chow down prior to Court Warming.

Classes of 1957 and 1967 will have reunions. That's all the info for
now.
----- Mrs. Cockefair's 97th Birthday -----
January the 9th, being Mrs. Cockefair's birthday. She will be 97
years
old. She was so thrilled when students showed up at the class of 65
reunion time last
year. Just a caveat: she has no computer, so birthday cards will
have to

----- Independence School District Homeless Students -----
Linda Webb, David's wife, and Robie Mathews sent me emails about the
same time alerting us about the magnitude of the Independence School
District's homeless student situation.
Currently, there are over 500 homeless students in the School
District.

From Nancy Lewis of the District Office: Homeless students and
families need toilet paper, paper towels, full-sized toiletries such
as deodorant, shampoo, hand/bath soap, tooth paste, tooth brushes,
shaving cream, laundry soap, school supplies, feminine hygiene
items,
Bandaids, and cleaning supplies. These things CANNOT be bought with
food stamps. Only food can be bought with food stamps. Blankets,
towels, and pillows are also welcome items!
Food that is easy to store and prepare is always welcome -
especially
for growing teenagers!

Clothing donations are also needed. Particular needs include
underwear
of any size (new), pajamas, coats for larger teens, and blue jeans
in
all sizes. These items can be taken to Tabitha's Closet at First
Christian Church (125 S. Pleasant, 816-252-6100). Students and
families are referred here from the schools to meet clothing needs.
Finally, monetary donations can be given to the Independence School
District Foundation at 201 N. Forest Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
Make sure your checks designate the "Caring for Kids" fund. Donated
funds are used to meet specific student needs and to help families
avoid homelessness by combining with family and community resources
to
keep utilities on and rent paid.

information about the Holiday Helpers program. You can also look

Programs and Services, click on Family Services to find out more
about
the homeless efforts under way. I told you I would find out what I
could, so here it is. Hope this information helps.
Option I:
Help (all) families thru Holiday Helpers program. This option is
administered thru the ISD Foundation and assists families regardless
of homeless status
? Parents of families in need volunteer in their child?s school
? When a parent logs XX hours, they are given a $50 gift card to
purchase gifts
? They are also given a $45 HyVee card good for groceries
? Donations can be made directly to the ISD Foundation
Option II
Help homeless families specifically
? ISD has just over 600 children considered homeless
? Part of the effort of this office is to empower families, no
direct deliveries of goods are made during the holidays; however,
funds are used to help ensure needs are met
? Donations can be made at any time to the ISD Homeless Benevolence
Fund and ISD staff will see that families are given assistance where
needed most
